Great Shower ideas
Showers come in all sizes and types, from huge spa-like tile and glass wonders to miniscule, efficient, fiberglass fixtures tucked into a corner. Here are some options to get you started on your plans:
- Fiberglass, tile, glass or Corian walls: Tile is a frequently chosen and attractive material for showers; oftentimes the homeowner will have the shower built into a corner, with two walls of tile and two of glass, one of which has a door.
- Curb or no curb: Curbless showers have become popular in recent years, for several reasons. One, they just look great and resemble more a luxurious spa; two, they are necessary if you have someone stay in your house who uses a wheel chair or has mobility problems.
- How big? Of course, it has to fit into the space available for it, but if you have lots of room in your master bath, the sky’s the limit.
- Bench: Most showers have a bench of some sort but it is not a requirement, of course. Whatever works for you. Some fiberglass showers come with molded benches, and for custom-built tiled showers you can have a bench built in, or have one of those teak wall-mounted fold-down benches installed, or none at all.
- Grab bars: These are a good idea to include and you really should have one or two installed when remodeling or having a new shower built. It is much more expensive to do later, as the carpenters will have to come at the shower wall from the room next door.
- Water saving fixtures: Just a good idea.
- Hand showers: Many people prefer this type, but it is up to what works for you.
