New Year’s Eve is the last day of the year; you might be surprised to find that not everyone parties during the last hours of the year.
It has not always been celebrated on the day of the year as we do today, but for thousands of years people have welcomed in the new year with celebrations of either religious solemnity or joyous parties.
Various cultures (those much older than the United States) celebrate the new year based on ancient calendars, with the date of the new year set by those calendars.
