How to do kitchen remodeling right!
First, plan! Think of it this way; the planning phase would benefit from taking more time than the actual construction. If you plan well, the amount of time you’re inconvenienced by construction work will be minimized. You are more likely to stay on budget if you have thoroughly researched and thought through the project. You might want to take 6 months for the planning phase.
Be sure to measure the width of your doors before ordering refrigerators or other large appliances! You don’t want to have a beautiful big fridge delivered, and not be able to get it through the door.
Think about traffic patterns in the kitchen; work aisles should be a minimum of 42 inches wide or 48 inches if more than one person will be working in the kitchen at the same time.
If costs are important to you, try to keep all piping and electrical outlets in the same locations. It adds a great deal to the budget to move pipes and wiring.
Aha! Lighting! Everyone hates trying to work in the kitchen without adequate light to see what you are doing. Be sure to have undercabinet task lighting as well as ceiling lights; it’s a safety issue as well. Dimmer switches are nice, so that you can adjust the light level appropriately.
These are some basic concepts that will make your kitchen remodel go more smoothly and make it an experience you can remember with enjoyment.
