What you need to know about decks

Homeowners are increasing the size of outdoor living spaces so they can enjoy a wider variety of activities outside. Especially here in Whatcom County and Bellingham areas, summers are the long days we look forward to and the sunshine we crave all winter!

Many deck projects focus on enlarging the square footage or adding another deck at a slightly higher elevation, to visually break up a large deck. A lot of homeowners combine different outside deck styles, such as a stone patio with an outdoor kitchen leading to a wood deck, and in another part of the yard there might be a fire pit with benches for seating.

Railings can add style to the deck, and either provide privacy or enhance the view, depending on homeowner needs. Cable railing systems are popular and durable; metal balusters in aluminum powder coated steel both provide a nice, open look with minimal upkeep. Tempered glass railings keep the view open as well.
