Kitchen tile – what works best?
Kitchens can have several different types of tiles, in different applications, and each will enhance your kitchen beautifully. When selecting tile consider where it will be installed. Glossy tile that goes o a wall will not be the same as flooring tile. Flooring tile has to be safe to walk on, and glossy floor kitchen tile could be unsafe. Here are some things to consider:
Consider the location where the tile is to be installed; backsplash behind a stove, on the wall to the underside of cabinets, or on the floor.
Types of tiles appropriate for kitchens include quarry, stone, cork, vinyl, bamboo, ceramic, porcelain and glass. Vinyl, cork and bamboo are most commonly used on the floor. Quarry, ceramic and porcelain can be used for countertops and floors; glass tile is usually reserved for walls and backsplashes.
Determine your budget before getting too attached a certain tile; some are expensive to purchase, and others can be very labor intensive to install, meaning you will pay more for installation.
Other considerations include maintenance. Some tiles are virtually maintenance free, others require regular attention, above and beyond simple cleaning.
