There’s nothing as satisfactory as a full bathroom upgrade
Bathroom surfaces have to deal with a lot of moisture, so they tend to wear out or become difficult to properly clean. No one wants mold or mildew growing in the tile grout or around the sink.
Be sure to first review the budget for the remodel. Bathrooms are notorious for secretly leaking water under the floor, and when your contractor starts to replace the flooring, tub/ shower or toilet, he/ she comes back to you and informs you that they can’t proceed until the damaged beams under the floor are replaced.
So keep a contingency account for unexpected costs.
- But then the fun part starts; new floor tile as well as new tile around the tub or tub/shower.
- New toilet; get a low-flow model, with what is called a comfort height. These are a little higher, making getting up and down easier for everyone.
- Don’t ignore the very important exhaust fan. Old ones can be noisy and ineffective. Get a brand new one with a light and a timer, as no one will have to remember to turn it off after it has done it’s job.
- Select shower trim, lav faucet, toilet paper holder, and towel holders from the same suite of style, so they all match.
- Be sure to have a couple of grab bars installed around the shower or tub, and at the toilet.
- Upgrade light fixtures; a moisture proof light over the shower will make a huge improvement when showering! Well planned lights around the vanity mirror will make shaving and make up prep easier.
There’s nothing quite like a new bathroom. Everything clean and fresh, colors and patterns selected to your tastes.
