Planning the perfect deck for your home
When deciding to build a deck, there’s a lot to consider. Not only do you want it to look good and fit your budget, but it also needs to be durable, safe, and hopefully, low maintenance.
For that low maintenance goal, go with a composite or PVC. These require little more than occasional cleaning with soap and water. That pressure treated wood that looks so great requires re-staining or painting every 1-2 years, depending on your climate.
Think about the style of your home when selecting color and style of the new deck; it should go well with your existing home exterior.
Railings are an integral part of the deck, and if you have a great view you’ll probably want glass or cable railings so the view is not obstructed. If you have neighbor homes quite close, you may want a privacy screen to protect your privacy when enjoying the deck.
For the luxury minded, you can have an outdoor kitchen built in, or for a less expensive option, a built in barbeque and benches. Here is a deck we built for a Whatcom county homeowner; check out our website for more photos of other decks we have remodeled or built.
