Ideas for summer home improvement projects
The backyard: You could replace, repair or build a new deck. Outdoor parties, small gatherings or just an evening with the family are so much more enjoyable with a refurbished or new deck and patio set.
The bathroom gets used pretty much by everyone who visits your home. Why not consider upgrading, either going minimalist with some new fixtures and paint, or going all the way with a complete redesign including new tile on floor and shower walls, along with all new fixtures. Think water-saving fixtures both to reduce the water bill and to do your bit for the environment. Unless you go for a glass shower wall and door, consider curved shower rods. They are popular, and for good reasons; they look great as well as add room inside the shower.
Pick a room (or maybe two?) and either paint it yourself, or hire a pro to do a professional job with all the trim skillfully painted, while you enjoy yourself out on that new deck.
New flooring or carpeting can have the impact of a renovation project, without the cost or hassle. Next to painting, new flooring/carpeting has the best return on investment. Flooring comes in five main categories: hardwood, laminate, carpet, tile and vinyl.
Within these categories, there are subsets of styles, color families, finishes, material compositions and textures, with their own characteristics and suitability for various uses.
