Important considerations when planning a bath remodel
The major factors in planning a bath remodel are:
- Budget
- Design
- Plumbing
- Who you choose for contractor
Plan for the space you have; if keeping to the same footprint, decide whether you have the budget to move plumbing fixtures, as this can add considerably to the cost.
Don’t forget the electrical system in the bathroom; if it is old, it may not be up to current codes, and in any case, there will be wiring in the walls. If you have anything done to the walls, be aware of the wiring inside them.
Choose tile that is slip resistant, even when wet. Enough said!
Choose lighting that is color corrected “daylight” fluorescent, LED or halogen for a more natural white light. Makes prepping in the morning easier!
Are you getting rid of a tub and installing a shower instead? Be sure you will be ok without a tub in the home, if this is the only one.
Have an appropriate sized exhaust fan installed, with quiet function, and a timer is nice, no need to come back and turn it off.
Grab bars for safety, especially in the shower or tub. You might consider them near the toilet as well, but that can be done in the future if needed.
