Most articles about home upgrades focus primarily on the return on investment the remodel will get you when you sell. But is that what is most important to you?
Many homeowners have found their “forever home” and really are more interested in making the home over to suit the way they live in it, and to make it safe for them as they age.
The bathroom is always an excellent room to start with, as it takes a beating from all that moisture. When updating the bath, be sure to include grab bars, non-skid flooring, easy-access showers and tubs, and appropriate lighting.
Kitchen counters may need replacing due to chips and stains, or even just an outdated color scheme. Cabinets – if these are good quality wood cabinets, refinishing might be the best solution, and the least expensive.
Don’t forget the light fixtures. These can become annoyingly outdated; have some that you really like installed, it will make a huge difference in the way you feel in your home.
