What makes a desirable kitchen cabinet?
We often think first about how the cabinets look when walking into the kitchen. Things like color, open shelving or closed cabinets, cabinet colors, door styles such as glass fronted, or solid.
Layout, or how the cabinets are designed and located around the kitchen are the primary important considerations, even before outward appearance. It’s best to have the items used in the oven, such as cookie sheets, baking pans and muffin tins, near the stove.
Tableware and eating utensils can be closer to where the typical seating areas are.
Small appliances are often put in lower cabinets, as they are usually not used on a daily basis. If some are used frequently, appliance “garages” are a nice idea to keep them close to hand, but out of sight.
Cabinets can have built in shelving that makes storing and removing items easier. The lower cabinets especially benefit from pull-outs, as bending over and searching inside those areas can be hard on the back.
Cabinet styles and color are dependant on what the homeowner wants to see, and varies tremendously! If you plan on staying in your home for many years, go ahead to have the cabinets styled in the colors and hardware designs that you love. If planning on selling and moving, it’s not really important, as the new owner will no doubt have their own preferences!
We love to upgrade Whatcom County kitchens to make homeowners love their kitchens and enjoy using them.
