What makes a great bathroom?
While we all have favorites, there are basic elements that make for a happy bathroom experience.
The primary funtions of the bathroom are supplied by the toilet, sink and shower.
All those water-using fixtures mean that water and wasteand vent piping must be routed to each fixture. This is why moving any fixture during a remodel can be expensive, as the water, waste and vent piping has to be re-routed.
A pleasant bathroom will have the fixtures located logically and reasonably. However, that does not always happen; on mistake is locating the toilet where it is the first thing one sees when opening the door. It’s better if a different element is visible, such as the vanity or the shower. After all, we don’t always leave the bathroom door closed when not in use; do you really want to be looking at the toilet?
So, besides the basics mentioned above, it’s nice to have some “luxury” items included in the bathroom. Towel warmers, heated floors, and extra electrical outlets for those personal care items are a nice touch.
Some safety features like grab bars and good quality lighting will improve the pleasant bathing experience.
